'At the end of this module, students will be able to:

• Differentiate between standard, hydrolyzed, modular and disease specific formulas.
• Identify characteristics of tube feeding formulas including energy density, nutrient density, osmolality, fiber content and cost.
• Analyze factors to consider when selecting tube feeding formula and routes.
• Identify the process of initiating and progressing a tube feeding and considerations for medication delivery.
• Detect complications that may develop with tube feedings.
• Compare and contrast the different forms of intravenous nutrition.
• Identify the components of intravenous nutrition solutions.
• Predict possible metabolic complications that can accompany parenteral nutrition.
• Differentiate between good candidates for tube feeding vs. parenteral nutrition support.
• Explain the transition process from enteral or parenteral nutrition to table food.
• Identify the hormonal, metabolic and immune responses to stress in the body.
• Determine the nutritional requirements for stress including energy, protein, carbohydrate, lipids and micronutrients.
• Identify the unique nutritional requirements for burns and respiratory stress.
