Flash has a number of benefits: it works natively in all modern browsers, uses less bandwidth than other platforms, and allows for the full-color illustrations and animations. In this book, you can watch P, S, and surface waves destroy a little house and see seismographs in action. Unfortunately, the “example” chapter which allows you to use a real seismographic data from a 2002 earthquake to find the epicenter has some some technical glitches in Macromedia Flashplayer Version 8, although it works fine in V7. If you have Flash 8, skip this section but use the rest of the book, as it’s quite good. The authors are working on this and hope to have a fix soon."
