Active World sometimes gets overlooked in all the hype about Second Life,but I would encourage faculty and students interested in virtual worlds to visit the "other" virtual community. Active Worlds technology is a "hit with teachers around the world". The AWEDU community is described as a" unique educational community that makes the Active Worlds technology available to educational institutions, teachers, students, and individual programs in a focused setting. Try this site out and accept their invitation to "explore new concepts, learning theories, creative curriculum design, and discover new paradigms in social learning".
