I head the Cognition Laboratory; an Experimental Laboratory in the Psych Dept of UNAM. Among our main research interests is Human Memory, especially how information fluctuates in Long Term Episodic Memory. The processes that represent those fluctuations are called Reminiscence and Hypermnesia.

The second aspect of Language we research in the Cognition Laboratory is how increasing our understanding sometimes leads to a corresponding increase in our emotional appreciation for the material that we read. We are currently conducting experiments in this regard using poems as reading material and assessing how appreciation grows sometimes as a direct function of better (and more deeply) understanding the poems.

Another research interests in the Cognition Laboratory is Language, of which we explore two aspects. First, reading. I´ve just finished a book on this topic, and I suggest that there is little sense in trying to read faster ("speed reading"). I further suggest that succesful reading consist of building in your mind an idea as close as possible as that of the text´s author, and that is aided by processes such as correctly identifying the context of the text, as well as developing ever finer categorisations of the text´s content.
