Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: ·
Understand the morphology of growth and sporulation in fungi. ·
Understand the organization and function of the fungal cell. ·
Apply classical and new methods to identify fungi in the clinical laboratory. ·
Know the immune responses that provide protection against fungal pathogens. · Know the range of antifungal agents and their action spectrum. ·
Know the genera and species of opportunistic and endemic fungal pathogens. · Understand the ecology and geographic distribution of mycoses. ·
Become familiar with the epidemiologic investigation of outbreaks of fungal disease.
